Recipe for homemade vinaigrette
➡️ Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons of oil
- 1 tablespoon of vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of mustard
- A pinch of salt
- A pinch of pepper
➡️ Steps
You can tell by the size of the ingredient list… making homemade salad dressing is a breeze! Simply mix oil, vinegar, mustard and season with salt and pepper in a bowl.
💡 Why do we need mustard? 🤔
Vinaigrette is an “unstable” emulsion of two liquids: oil and vinegar. These two liquids do not mix unless mustard is added! The mustard makes it much easier for the oil and vinegar to bind together.
You can mix your dressing with a fork or whisk, but the best way is to use a shaker! Pour all the ingredients into it, and shake vigorously. Your dressing is ready to pour directly onto your dish.
You can even store your dressing in this shaker, the container will allow it to keep for several weeks in the refrigerator. You will only have to shake it once more before using it.
There are also dressing bottles with a pouring cap.
💡 A light homemade dressing
To make a healthier dressing, replace half the amount of oil with water!
A homemade vinaigrette without vinegar
If you’re not a vinaigrette fan, you may not have the ingredients at home! Especially vinegar or mustard. In that case, opt for this more original version of the dressing: mix a green tomato with olive oil and soy sauce, and you’re done! 🪄✨
Which ingredients to choose for a vinaigrette?
Le choix de vos ingrédients fera de votre vinaigrette une délicieuse sauce, ou non… Alors suivez le guide :
➡️ Vinegar
The most classic is wine vinegar, a sure value! You can also opt for cider vinegar, for a fruitier taste, or balsamic vinegar for a sweeter side. If you like Asian flavors, there is also rice vinegar. All flavored vinegars will also do the trick. Forget white spirit vinegar, however.
➡️ Oil
Prefer oils with a neutral taste: sunflower, peanut, corn, rapeseed, grape seed.
However, if you want more flavor, you can go for olive oil, walnut oil, hazelnut oil, etc. If you choose a fragrant oil, do not pair it with a vinegar that is also fragrant.
Avoid virgin oils.
You now know everything about the famous vinaigrette sauce. It’s up to you to reproduce it and use it in your favorite dishes: salads, vegetables, and why not meat and fish? What do you like to eat your dressing with? Tell us in comments ⬇️
